Wednesday 18th March 10-1

or Friday 27th March 2-5

What a lovely class to teach !

We had a sunny morning and began  by sketching the bulbs outdoors.

We then tried techniques with water colours and soluble crayons to make colourful pictures inspired by them.

We ended the session by looking at each other's work and marvelling at how different everyone's pictures are.

I am looking forward to teaching this class again next week !

OIL PASTEL LANDSCAPES

The mid summer landscape is a wonderful palette of vivid greens and yellows.

In this oil pastel landscape class we explored different ways of capturing it with oil pastel and graphite sticks or pencils.

We had a fun session discovering what a versatile and generous medium oil pastel is. Everyone was surprised by this !

WATERCOLOUR SWEET PEAS

Sweet peas are lovely to draw and in this class I teach various methods of capturing their delicate beauty. We work with pencil, charcoal and water colour to make a series of studies of them. When possible we draw in the garden as well as in the studio.

PAINTING POPPIES

At last it is summer and the ART JOY classes follow the garden as it grows. Last week we explored the poppy and celebrated its vivid presence in our lives.

The students worked in pencil for observation drawing in the garden, then in charcoal to express the delicacy of the poppy and finally in paint and chalk to capture the vibrancy of the flowers.

PAINTING ALLIUM & HONEYSUCKLE

What a pleasure it is to be able to work outside ! Students have loved drawing and painting the early summer border filled with allium and euphorbia and overhung by fragrant honeysuckle.

Starting with observational drawing in pencil, they made paintings in acrylic paint embellished with chalks.
